Tocky’s new pulsating offering
By Godknows Mafaro
Tocky Vibes became a household name at the start of his career and has become a darling to both the old and the young with his lyrical content.
The Mhai hitmaker at one time was deemed as the best, with the late music icon Oliver Mtukudzi identifying him as one of his personal favourites.
Tocky’s fame dropped during the years as some fans accused him of snubbing shows, but, however, the artiste seems to have contracted what he sang in one of the songs, Tocky Aenda Nenyika, as some of his songs were banned on local radio stations, but this did not pull him back as he continued to produce other hits such as Wakatemba which features ExQ and is currently trending and stands at 986,566 views on YouTube.
With his new offering, Dhongi Newaya album, now out, he has already shown that he is a musician not to be phased out quickly.
He opens the album with the title track Dhongi Newaya which takles of how friends can ruin one’s life because they are the ones that know most of the secrets.
He said “Rova dhongi newaya is a statement usually associated with people from Masvingo which goes like “Rova dhongi newaya rigoziva kuti pachigayo hapabuditsirwe madhiri” and he also noted the need for people to be wary of the secrets they share with friends as that might be disastrous.
“Mudhara Tuku” , which is a dedication to the late Oliver Mtukudzi is a masterpiece.
Influenced by Impala boss Mudhara Dondo, according to him, the musician said the Impala boss used to work with Oliver Mtukudzi on various projects and he saw it fit to do a project in memory of the artiste and, hence approached him, Tocky vibes to do a song which was produced by veteran producer and Tuku’s long tie friend Steve Dyer.
Happy times do not last whereas bad times last forever this is what Tocky Vibes unpacks in song titled Tinokumbira mufaro mukuru which features Mathias Mhere, T Gonzi and Amos Mahendere. The song is prayer to the almighty to grant people time to be happy because in most cases happy times are too short and it appears that people only enjoy that short time before a bad thing happen.
In his bid to address the plight of women, the artistes did a track titled Mbereko, in this track he talks about the stigma usually associated with barrenness especially about women who are the most victims in this case, despite the issue with women or men, but the blame will be shouldered on women.
He released a song of hope to those leaving with disabilities in one of his songs Kana Kundibvunza. He also explained that everyone was created with a purpose and hence no need to lose hope when one is living with disabilities but there is need to have hope and follow your passion.
These are some of the songs in the album which has a total of twenty songs which is rich with messages of hope and also tackles various social issues that affect people in their daily lives. BY Staff reporter
