SAMAs26 Honour Dan Tshanda
The South African Music Awards have posthumously honoured Dan Tshanda with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The late Tshanda dominated the 80s and 90s with his prolific production of music hits in the Afro disco genre. A Soweto prodigy, Dan rose to international stardom with his groups Splash, the Dalom Kids and Matshikos. Some of his popular albums included Peacock, Nesindande, Eye for An Eye and Khoma Khoma. After producing Hit after Hit in the 90s, Dan Tshanda formed a formidable Music company Dalom Music. His works became extremely popular in Southern Africa particularly in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Swaziland.
Tshanda’s honour is not a surprise as he definitively deserves to be among some of South Africa’s great and late musicians alongside Lucky Dube, Brenda Fassie, Penwell Kunene, David Masondo to mention but a few.
One of Tshanda’s fans Allan Lance Mhlanga who is a die hard African music fanatic concurs, ‘It was always Dan’s dream to get an award from his own. Though he is not here to receive his Lifetime Achievement Award, I know he is happy wherever he is sleeping. I know he would have dedicated this award to his millions of fans.’
